Your excellence, dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and the population in Egypt,

Representatives of the producers of Egyptian vaccines Alliance,
Colleagues and partners,
On behalf of the World Health Organization, I extend my hottest congratulations to Egypt to become the first country in the eastern Mediterranean region to achieve the regional objective for the control of hepatitis B, as set by the resolution of the EM/RC56/R.5 (2009) regional committee.
This recognition follows a rigorous revision led by the Committee for the independent regional validation (RVC).
Based on robust and verifiable data, the RVC concluded that Egypt has actually achieved the regional objective, supported by the following key indicators:
The superficial antigen of hepatitis B (HBSAG) The prevalence between children aged or over 5 years of age is less than 1 %;
Coverage of the vaccine against third dosage hepatitis B maintained 90 % or higher for over a decade;
And the coverage of the birth dose has exceeded 90 % for at least five years.
These results are a testimony of your leadership, prolonged investments and constant commitment to public health.
Collect your excellence, the Ministry of Health and the population and the dedicated teams that guide the national programs of immunization and control of Egyptian hepatitis.
The success of Egypt represents not only a national result, but a regional milestone: a powerful example of what is possible when they align the science, politics and trust of the public.
Through your strong program expanded on immunization, you have significantly reduced the preventable diseases with the vaccine, the improvement of the survival of children and strengthened health systems, culminating in the elimination of measles and rubella.
Those who are ready to support you in introducing further life -saving vaccines to protect from Rotavirus, human papillomavirus, pneumococcus bacteria and other mortal pathogens.
In addition, the establishment of the producers of Egyptian vaccines Alliance (Evma) indicates a bold step towards self -sufficiency, the innovation of the vaccine and fair access. This is essential to support high coverage and guarantee timely and convenient vaccines for everyone.
But this success is not the end: it is a beginning. With a continuous commitment, Egypt is well positioned to move from control to the elimination of hepatitis B as threat to public health.
I undermine other countries in the eastern Mediterranean region to draw inspiration from the Egyptian journey. With determined leadership, evidence -based strategies and inclusive partnerships, we can obtain similar goals.
