New York a double US German citizen citizen was arrested for charges that he traveled to Israel and tried to fire the US embassy branch in Tel Aviv, the officials said on Sunday.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office in New York said that the man, Joseph Nummeyer, went into the embassy building with a backpack with a Molotow cocktails on May 19, but rose into a confrontation with a guard and finally ran away.
The law enforcement authorities then followed Naummeyer a few blocks from the message to a hotel and arrested him, according to a criminal complaint submitted in the eastern district of New York.
The attack took place against the background of the Israel War in Gaza, now in the 19th month.
The 28 -year -old Neummeyer, who originally comes from Colorado and has double US and German citizenship, traveled from the USA to Canada in early February and, according to court files, arrived in Israel at the end of April at the end of April. The prosecutors said that he had made a number of impending social media post before trying to attack.
The Israeli officials deported Naummeyer to New York on Saturday and on Sunday he had a first court appearance in front of a federal judge in Brooklyn, on the same day when his criminal complaint was not sealed.
Nummeyer’s judicial lawyer Jeff Dahlberg refused to comment.
During his first term, President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital despite the Palestinian objections and moved the US message from Tel Aviv to the competitive city.
