A woman was killed in an ax attack at the University of Warsaw in Poland, the police said.
A man was seriously injured in the attacks on Wednesday, they said.
A 22-year-old Polish man was arrested. His motifs remain unclear.
The university described the attack as a “huge tragedy”. It described the woman as an employee – without giving any other details – and the man as a security guard.
The attacker entered the college campus at 6:40 p.m. local time (4:40 p.m. GMT).
From there, according to a spokesman for the district lawyer, he went to an lecture hall.
Only a few details have appeared about what happened afterwards.
The Polish news agency, Gazeta Wyborcza Daily, said the attacker was a law student in the third year. There is no official confirmation.
“We express our great grief and compassion towards the family and the relatives,” said the university’s rector in an explanation and added that May 8 would be a day of mourning for the institution.
