May 12, 2025 – Cairo/Geneva/Jerusalem, the risk of famine in Gaza is increasing with the deliberate deduction of humanitarian aid, including food, in the current block.

Mothers in pregnancy and stirring are also at high risk of malnutrition, with almost 17,000 expected to request a treatment for acute malnutrition in the next eleven months, if the terrible situation does not change. The malnutrite mothers struggle to produce enough nourishing milk, putting their children at risk, while the delivery of consultancy services for mothers is strongly compromised. For children under the age of six months, breast milk is their best protection against hunger and diseases, especially where clean water is scarce, as is in Gaza.
The long -term impact and the damage from malnutrition can last a life in the form of stunted growth, a compromised cognitive development and bad health. Without enough nourishing food, clean water and access to health care, an entire generation will be affected permanently.
The plan recently announced by the Israeli authorities to deliver food and other essential objects throughout Gaza through proposed distribution sites is seriously inadequate to meet the immediate needs of over two million people. Which echoes the request of the United Nations for the global humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality to be supported and respected and to be granted a humanitarian access without obstacles to provide aid according to the needs of people, wherever they are. A well -consolidated and proven humanitarian coordination system, led by the United Nations and its partners, is already underway and it must be fully operated to ensure that aid is delivered in a principle, timely and fair.
The blocking of aid and the reduction of humanitarian access continue to undermine the ability to support 16 outpatient malnutrition treatment centers and three hospitals with life -saving supplies and to support the wider health system. The remaining supplies in the stocks of those who are sufficient in Gaza only to treat 500 children with acute malnutrition – a fraction of urgent need – while the medicines and essential supplies to treat trauma diseases and lesions are already exhausted and cannot be supplied due to the block.
