Tiller is looking for experienced team-oriented backend engineers who are passionate about building robust and scalable software and systems for customer-centric financial products. If you have great communication skills, understand simple solutions to complex problems, share ideas, accept feedback, and be open and flexible about working together to enjoy your work, you may be the perfect candidate.

You are not expected to have expertise in all of the requirements listed. We are most interested in developers with relevant professional experience. If you feel passionate about Tiller’s mission, vision and values, apply.

Our engineering team is completely remote and based in the Pacific Time Zone (UTC – 07:00). We strongly prefer candidates that are within 2-3 hours of our time zone.

What to bring to Tiller

  • Core Tech Stack (TypeScript, node.js, mongodb) expertise

  • Strong understanding of cloud platform services (calculation, storage, networking, permissions)

  • Knowledge and skills to effectively monitor distributed applications on the Google Cloud platform.

  • Experience with tools and techniques for maintaining and refactoring legacy code.

  • A reasonable and appropriate use of AI tools for coding.

  • A reliable workspace and internet connection, and the ability to travel 3-4 times a year to Washington or another US location.

  • A growth mindset and a desire to continuously improve.

Within two weeks, the following will be:

  • See yourself and work with each team, from engineering to customer success.

  • Be familiar with the product and core codebase.

  • Learn about the roadmap and exciting opportunities.

  • Get your first project into production and learn about the development process.

Within three months, you’ll see:

  • Improve your core codebase by developing performance and maintainable backend features.

  • Lead and participate in undeniable, empathetic code reviews.

  • Get a complete overview of the service architecture and implement three metrics to improve service health and performance visibility.

  • We paired up with others on our team to provide our customers with at least one new feature.

Within six months, you will see:

  • Contribute to the engineering team’s culture of operational excellence by creating proposals that improve systems or processes.

  • Obtain ownership of new product initiatives throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Become a subject expert in one or more areas of Tiller’s service architecture.
