This is a bit strange: two years after having announced its planned closure in the aftermath of the 2 billion dollars of the Embracer group, the Cabal bonfire has revealed today that “it has never been closed” and that in reality it is working on a new addition to the Expeditions series of historic RPGs.
“If you follow the insider news, you are aware that they have been a couple of difficult years in the games sector”, the study he wrote. “The investments were dried up, the studies were closed, countless developers lost their jobs and games have been deleted on the left and right.”
This is putting it slightly. A rapid recovery of how we arrived here: the Cabala bonfire was founded In September 2022 under the Embracecer Thq Nordic label to “focus on high quality role -playing games and led by the narrative”. But less than a year later, a huge investment agreement at the last minute has passed and the wings of Embracecer were suddenly and brutally cut: hundreds of people were fired (although none of the Managers responsible for the messObviously) and numerous closed studies, including – apart from – Campfire Cabal.
“It is not a secret that Embracer Group has recently entered the renovation”, the creative director Jonas Wæver Written in August 2023. “As part of this renovation process, Thaq Nordic was told to close the Cabala bonfire. This decision was not related to the work that we carried out in the studio but was done from a purely financial point of view.”
Wæver said at the moment that the management of the study and Thq Nordic “did not give up the bonfire cabal” and that “we are still pursuing our options to find a good resolution in this situation”, although my reading came out almost entirely as forced optimism, above all since his announcement was literally entitled “Study closures”. Still, here we are.
“Even if we had to say goodbye to many of our colleagues, the study survived and a compact team continued the project we had started in 2022
“We are extremely grateful that there were people within the group who fought to keep us alive through the turmoil and that we can now emerge on the other side with renewed vigor.”
Campfire Cabal has finally confirmed today that he is working on a new role -playing game, something previously assumed but never officially announced and that he was responsible for a surprise Shipping: Rome Patch that fell in November 2024. The details were not shared but, like the previous games of the series, “is set in a new period in our history and in a new part of the world”.
