Google added Gemini to the sheet, and it changed the trajectory of my life…
Fine, I’m a bit dramatic, but don’t act like the only person who thinks about what you know, a lot of “AI innovations” are. 🤬
Most “AI innovations” are either exaggerated or just ridiculous. Look at you, AI toaster. I still can’t get over it and refuse to let it go.

But sometimes something convenient comes up. Google, which adds AI to a sheet, was one of those moments for me.
Today I’m breaking down why Gemini on the seat is important, how they use it to save time every week, and why this modest move is the most amazing AI play ever.

How Gemini works on sheets
As you know, Gemini is Google’s answer to ChatGpt and is designed to integrate seamlessly across Google Workspace.
I always keep it real with you: Google swings and misses a lot. Half the time they feel like throwing features on the wall and seeing what’s on it. result? The Frankenstein code layers of half-baked ideas are stacked on top of each other, making everything more complicated than necessary. You know exactly what I mean. 🤓
But what about this time? They did it right.

The Gemini in the sheet is more than just a layer of complexity. This is a seamless upgrade built into your workflow. Unlike standalone AI tools that require additional logins and constant app switching, this one lives where you already work. Open the spreadsheet, click on the Gemini icon and give instructions in plain English.
There are no extra tabs, confusing menus, no useful AI that fits nature and helps you get things done.
Do I need to crunch a year’s worth of sales data? Do you want to generate a chart? Do you want to summarise the survey responses? 🤔
Gemini handles it all instantly where you already work. It’s a practical AI I can get behind.
What you can do with Gemini with a seat
- Create a table.
- Create an expression.
- Generate data analysis and insights.
- Build charts and graphs.
- Summarize the files from your drive and send an email from Gmail.
- Take actions such as applying conditional formatting, creating a new pivot table, creating a new dropdown, sorting, and filtering tables.
I’m not saying you’re going to become a genius data scientist using google sheets and gemini…but I’m not do not have He’s saying. 😛
How to use Gemini
As mentioned earlier, I am the marketer at my core. Most of my work is more than just creating campaigns. We’re digging into numbers. The report was eating much more time than I did, but Gemini makes some of my work much easier. 🤗

Automate my weekly report – There is no time, energy or desire to run these reports. So every Monday, I have Gemini put together the numbers. Select your data and ask, “Summary this data, highlight the top performers, call the negative…clean it.” (Yes, I would like to ask quite a bit in case the AI rebelled.) What is the outcome? I got what I needed and I’m glad I went.

Spotting Trends – A large part of my job is finding trends, and much of our success as a company comes from acting more based on trends than anyone else. He tells Gemini, “It shows trends and highlights rare spikes.”

Building a custom dashboard – I love dashboards. I hate pivot tables. So instead of setting it up manually, I say, “create a dashboard that shows monthly revenue, expenses, and profit margins.”
These are the most important tasks for me, but I would recommend trying Gemini yourself to see how it works best in your workflow.
Certainly, other tools can do the same thing, but do you not need to switch apps? It’s a game changer, especially for my ADHD. 😅

I’m really blown away. Google did well with this. And irony? It’s not even flashy.

All I can say at this point is to create a report, send it to your boss and see how smart you are. Don’t worry, I won’t tell them how you did it.
But just in case you don’t forget to tell Gemini to “please do your pretty.”
