A man who was accused of having thrown Molotow cocktails on demonstrators who visited a march for Israeli hostages in Colorado on Sunday planned the attack for one year.
The 45 -year -old Mohammed Sabry Soliman, who is charged with murder, assault and use of an explosive device, took place shortly in court on Monday.
Officials say that the Egyptian National aimed a group of pro-Israel in a shopping center outdoors in Boulder and called “Free Palestine” when he threw fire equipment and injured eight of them.
After that, at least 16 unlit Molotow cocktails were found nearby. The investigators say that he attacked the group after finding it online.
It is the latest attack on members of the Jewish community of America.
The weekly demonstration was organized by Run for her life, which sharpens the awareness of Israeli hostages in Gaza.
Officials say Mr. Soliman had thrown two fire equipment in the meeting in Pearl Street Mall, with eight of the victims suffering.
Twelve people, including four men and four women between the ages of 52 and 88, were taken to the hospital, with injuries from minor to serious.
Officials previously said there were eight victims, but four more minor injuries had on Monday.
The oldest of the victim is a Holocaust survivor, Rabbi Israel Wilhelm, the director of Chabad at the University of Colorado Boulder, told the US partner CBS News from the BBC.
The attack occurred at the beginning of Shavuot’s Jewish holiday.
The suspect appeared in court on Monday through a video feed from Boulder County’s prison for less than five minutes, stood and bears an orange overall.
He answered some procedural questions from the judge with “yes”, but otherwise did not speak. The court created an appointment for the formal submission of fees this Thursday.
Officials said on Monday that they believed that he had acted alone.
In an interview after his arrest, Mr. Soliman informed the police that he had planned the attack for a year after his daughter’s high school graduation after an affidavit from his daughter from the FBI.
He told the police that he wanted to “kill all Zionists” and carry out the attack again, the court documents said.
In addition to the unlit Molotov cocktails, a backpack was found nearby that contained oct dance gasoline.
Mr. Soliman dressed up as a gardener with an orange vest to get the group of people as close as possible.
Mr. Soliman said he saw youtube videos for the manufacture of Molotow cocktails, according to an affidavit.
The investigators told him that he had learned to shoot a weapon in the hope of receiving a hidden Carry permit, but finally with Molotow cocktails because his immigration status prevented him from accessing firearms.
Mr. Soliman drove from his house in Colorado Springs to Boulder and arrived five minutes before her meeting and, according to court documents, waited for the group. He supposedly said he bought gasoline on the way to attack.
According to the FBI, Mr. Soliman said during the interview that he hated Zionists and targeted them because they had to stop taking over “our country”, which he had taken over as a reference to the Palestinian areas.
Mr. Soliman supposedly said officials that he hid his iPhone in a desk drawer with news to his family, wife and five children. According to court documents, his wife later brought the iPhone to civil servants.
On Monday, law enforcement officers said there was no indication that the accused was a threat.
“We fully had to hold Mr. Soliman accountable for his actions, and these charges are the first step.
Mr. Soliman moved to Colorado Springs three years ago and previously lived in Kuwait for 17 years.
In 2022, Mr. Soliman arrived in California with a non-immigrant visa that expired in February 2023. Several sources have announced CBS News.
Homeland protection officers said that he applied for an asylum system a month after arrival, but gave no details about the result of this immigration or about whether it was solved.
Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff of President Donald Trump, said on X that Mr. Soliman received a work permit from the Biden Administration after exceeding his visa.
“In view of yesterday’s terrible attack by yesterday, all terrorists, their family members and terrorist sympathizers should know on a visa that we can find their visa under the Trump administration and deport them,” said US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio on X.
Mr. Soliman has been working as a food delivery driver for Uber since 2023, a company spokesman told CBS.
According to the company, when he worked for them, he met all Uber requirements, including the review of a criminal and moving background check, the provision of a photo ID and a valid social security number.
Trump said in a social media post that attacks like the attacks allegedly carried out by Mr. Soliman were not tolerated.
“This is another example of why we keep our borders safe and have to deport illegal, anti -American radicals from our home country,” he said.
The Jewish community in the United States has suspended a number of attacks by attackers who quoted the war of the Israel Gaza.
Last month, two helpers of Israel embassy were shot and killed outside of Washington’s Capital Jewish Museum. Witnesses said the attacker called “Free Palestine”.
In April, a man set fire to the residence of the governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro, who is Jewish. The suspect said the arson was a retaliation for Israeli attacks on Palestinians.
