The inspirations of the real world behind Spirit of the North 2, now available

Today is the day when I have been looking forward for five years, the day of release of our second game, Spirit of North 2. To celebrate its launch, I would like to share the story behind how (and why) we made this game.

A vast world, a small hero

In 2016, I was a crossroads. I was a training for graduates in 3D Environment Art architecture, but I also worked as general manager for an Ice sculpture company. I always liked to create spaces for people, and this has remained true through all my work. But how could my experience in snow be, ice and environments in a video game?

The answer came during a holiday in Reykjavík, Iceland.

The Icelandic landscapes have stunned me: volcanic rocky fields, glacial lagoons, geothermal pools and basalt columns that seemed designed By nature. Wherever I turned, I had the inspiration I was looking for. The stone became sentinels guarding the secret passages. Geyser have become dynamic obstacles. The glaciers became slides with hidden rooms lost over time. Even folklore filtered in my imagination, especially when I later discovered a book on Tulikettu.

Tulikettt is what the Finn calls a fox whose tail sparkles in the air, sending flames to float with the sky and form the northern lights (or the back of the back, the “fox shoots” as Finnish calls them). This enigmatic small creature has encapsulated the essence of the reverential fear, something that I have tried in these Nordic landscapes. The idea of ​​an Aurora touched the fox that wanders for the lands, healing the spirits and being this guardian of Nordic culture was the perfect shot on all the threads, on all these ideas, to bring together everything.

History and charm

Spirit of the North grew by those artifacts: an adventure of Fox through scarred landscapes, in which players discover war stories, lost spirituality and environmental ruin, not through dialogue, but through exploration. The sequel expands this vision, with richer traditions, deeper mysteries and tutors such as the back of deer and the meditobondo crow, each hiding stories.

Spirit of the North is much more than a game for me. His world is an extension of myself, my team and encapsulate everything that inspires and elevates us.
