The Nintendo Switch 2 has been one of the most-talked-about pieces of gaming news this year, especially after early April’s official Nintendo Direct event. The original Switch has been on a historic run, as it’s now been eight years since the console launched to the masses. Many Nintendo fans have been eagerly awaiting the Switch 2, and the console’s game lineup is off to a strong start, especially for sports fans.
It’s been confirmed that a solid variety of sports franchises will be finding a home on the Switch 2 when it launches this summer, but there are still some heavy-hitters missing from the lineup. The Switch 2 has ignited both intrigue and controversy, but it’s hard to deny that the system is promising a diverse offering of games. While many of the confirmed sports games are exciting, the Switch 2 is hopefully only making other big names wait on the sidelines for a short while.

The Switch 2 is Still Missing Some of the Biggest Sports Franchises
Sports Titles That Have Yet to Be Confirmed for the Switch 2
- MLB The Show
- EA Sports College Football
- Forza
This trio seems primed to be great options for the Switch 2 to add to its roster, but only time will tell if these major players will get to call the new Nintendo console home. MLB The Show and EA Sports College Football seem like a given, so the pair of games will hopefully be announced later this year.
Forza is a wild card in the group, as it’s a Microsoft exclusive, but that has recently changed. For the first time, Forza Horizon 5 is set to be ported to the PlayStation 5, officially shedding its Xbox-only skin. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has made it clear that the company is no longer in the market for exclusivity, which could pave the way for Forza on the Switch 2. The PS5 may be a more powerful console that boasts better graphics, but a Switch 2 port would potentially be another great way for the Forza franchise to gain an even bigger audience.
Forza Horizon 5 comes to PS5 on April 29.
Every Sports Game Confirmed for the Switch 2, So Far
- Mario Kart World
- Drag x Drive
- Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4
- Fast Fusion
- EA Sports FC
- Madden NFL
- NBA 2K
- WWE 2K
Even though MLB The Show, EA Sports College Football, and Forza are currently absent, there are at least plenty of other sports titles to look forward to. For those who are really itching for a racing experience on the Switch 2, Mario Kart World and Fast Fusion are Nintendo exclusives that can get the job done.
A heavy-hitter like Forza may be wishful thinking at the moment. However, MLB The Show and EA Sports College Football being left out of the fun completely would be surprising, considering they are such staple franchises in the genre. The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct event may have released a buffet of great titles to choose from, but it’s simply the tip of the iceberg.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5.
Controversy Surrounding the Switch 2 Continues
Nintendo has made a lot of decisions with the Switch 2 that many shocked fans are not happy about. Increased game prices, GameChat only being free for a limited time, and some physical copies of games only having downloadable keys have presented conflicting feelings of both excitement and anger. As the Switch 2’s launch draws closer, it will be interesting to see if these choices will affect sales. Despite the divisive choices on Nintendo’s part, the Switch 2 and its game roster mark the beginning of an exciting new era.
