THE Monster Hunter franchise It is a phenomenon, it accumulates the critical and commercial applause and that covers dozens of main titles and spin -offs. The secret of its success is a compelling game cycle, in which you fight huge and terrifying monsters to earn booty which, in turn, allows you to acquire better equipment and hunt larger and more bad beasts. It is an easy lap to replicate on the table and that’s exactly what Monster Hunter World does: the board game. Just like his parent franchise, however, he is available in a variety of flavors, so here’s what you need to find your feet in this video game game game.
Presented in this article
If you are not one for the blur, you can scroll all the articles in this article right here. However, if you want to know more about what is available and what comes to each box, continue reading for the goods.
Basic boxes
Each of the basic boxes is an autonomous game, containing four hunters and four monsters to hunt. However, they can also be combined, allowing you to mix and combine the characters and their prey from different sets. Most of the components in each box is specific for the unique hunters and monsters for that set, but there is a little overlap and each set contains some extra cards that are used only if they combine with its opposite number.
As such, you are probably better with a single box of core to start and, if you enter the game, you can start by adding some of the smallest expansions, listed below, doubled on a second set of core in case you develop a passion for the series.
There is really no difference between the basic sets in terms of quality. Both present the same set of rules, the same compulsive cycle and the same stratospheric levels of production quality, with gigantic monstrous miniatures that tower hunters for a fantastic sense of scale. But the appearance and feeling of everyone is quite different, so you are better simply going to any appeal in an aesthetic way or binds to affectionate memories of the video game series.
Monster Hunter World: The Board Game – Ancient Forest
As one might expect from the title, the setting for this collection is a primordial forest. The game tables are a lush and brown green and the monsters are clearly inspired by dinosaurs and tropical animals. There are the great jagras similar to lizards, the Tobi-Kadachi were and triggered, the fearsome tyrannosaurus Anjanath and the huge Dragon Rathalos. Deposits to bring them down are the hunters of classically Great Sword, Spada and Shield, Dual Blades and Bow arms.
Monster Hunter World: The Board Game – Wildshire Waste
Wildshire waste is a little more esoterically called but the monsters and cards clarify that it is a Badlands type settingWith a mixture of rocky outcrops, desert and swamp. The creatures included are the strongly armed Barroth, monstrous jyurados of swampy fish, the bird’s Pukei-Pokei and the underground Behemoth Diablos who have more than a similarity of passage to his demonic namesake. The hunters in this set are a little more bizarre, branding, charge axes, heavy bowgun and insects of insects.
Retail expansions
As often happens with the games led by Kickstarter, there were a series of expansions available for the pre -order at the same time. Most of these are still available to detail, however Nirgante is very difficult to find and Teostra is exclusive for the publisher, steam games – both are currently available directly from their website.
Negrigante, Kushala Diora and Teostra are all Dragons Elder, a new type of monster to hunt. They are equipped with additional mission content for the basic game, but perhaps more attractive than everything that offer an extra level of difficulty to five stars which is a vote above any of the monsters of the basic game, and the miniature included is a full level bigger than any counterpart of Core Box. This gives you an extra and mega-boss challenge to overcome and extends your campaign.
While getting to fight a final garment in a longer campaign might seem the ideal way to extend the contents of your basic game, all these expansions are expensive and many have characteristics that work only with one main box or the other. For example, Flora has a special craft weapon that adapts to a hunter with an ancient forest and another for a Wildshire waste hunter. Therefore, collecting the second basic set could be the first best stop if you want additional content for your game.
Monster Hunter World The Board Game: Hunter’s Arsenal Expansion
This offers six new hunters, as usual who takes its name from their weapons, which are a mixture of the traditional and peculiar. You can choose from the light Bowgun, the long sword (which is really very long), the gunner, the hammer, the spear and the hunting horn (which does not look like a horn). While the fantastic dragons and other monsters are obviously attractive, in terms of adding variety to your games, this box gives you the largest bang for your dollar while you get six several new toys to play with and six new update routes to explore, rather than a single beast. However, you will need both set cores to be able to fully use all six.
Monster Hunter World: The Board Game – Nirgiant Expansion
If you want a single dragon to add to your campaign, this could be the best solution because it allows you to create additional weapons for all the characters currently available, including all those of the core sets and the hunter’s arsenal. It is also deliciously strange, a thorny giant that cultivates vicious vices to impale the hunters wherever he is damaged.
Monster Hunter World The Board Game: Kushala Tera Expansion
Kushala Raora It is a dragon of the wind, which throws hunters with powerful storms and also has the largest miniature of the range, with a wing opening in terms of foot. As if to beat such a giant it was not a fairly hard struggle in the first place, you will also have to fight through strong winds and tornado explosions only to close with your quarry.
Monster Hunter World: The Board Game – Teostra Expansion
Of all dragons, Teostra It could be the most familiar simply because it is the classic fire dragon that everyone knows and loves or fears, possibly in equal measure. As one might expect, this means a distance punishment from explosions and fire balls for anyone who dares to transgress on the dragon’s den.
Exclusive expansion
This was originally available only as part of the Kickstarter campaign for the game. Expect to pay a heavy premium if you want to take one of the second hand. However, there is currently another possibility to grab one thanks to the most recent Kickstarter campaign for the new iceborne boxes, detailed below.
Monster Hunter World-Kulu-Ya-Ku Expansion
This bizarre creature can collect things in its skilled claws, such as the rocks to be launched into intrepid hunters. In mechanical terms this not only gives him a missile attack, but his ability to use the tools makes it unpredictable, ensuring that you have to choose the right point from a round to round to mark maximum damage. It looks a lot like an ornitomimosauro – an ostrich mimic dinosaur – so it looks like at home in Antique forest Although it can be used with both cores.

Monster Hunter World Iceborne: The Board Game
After the success of the initial formation detailed above, the publisher Steamforged Games performed a second kickstarter for a new iteration of the basic design called Monster Hunter World: iceborne. While it presents the same main mechanics, it has a series of new concepts, so it is only partially compatible with the original boxes: you can bring monsters and hunters from one to the other in the Arena games, but you cannot arouse a campaign from a different setting.
The iceborne content follows a similar path, but slightly different from the original campaign. This time there is only one main box, Harfrost Reach, again with four monsters and four hunters. In addition, as before there are elderly dragons and the expansion of the Arsenal of a hunter to be added. But instead of another basic box there are three expansions of monsters with four new monsters each, absolute power, ribbering anger and overwhelming hunger. Plus an infarinting of extras unlocked during the campaign.
While the campaign has closed, the game has not yet been sent and you can still order objects from the range offered via Gamfound.
