Instacart reveals holiday food choices and popular candies – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — As spring arrives, families across the United States are gearing up for Passover and Easter celebrations, with Instacart revealing data on popular holiday foods and candies.

A survey conducted by The Harris Poll for Instacart found that 76% of Americans plan to celebrate Easter or Passover this year, with family traditions significantly influencing their food choices.

Instacart’s data shows that while leg of lamb is a popular purchase during Easter, 35% of consumers surveyed consider it their least favorite Easter dish.

Instacart’s survey highlights that traditional holiday foods may not be as universally loved as expected. For example, despite increased purchases of lamb, many consumers express a dislike for it. Candy remains a central part of Easter celebrations, with jelly beans and lollipops seeing significant spikes in popularity. Instacart data shows jelly beans are ordered 16.6 times more on the day before Easter compared to the yearly average. Regional preferences for candy vary, with PEEPS being a favorite in cities like Boston and Philadelphia, despite not making the national top 10 list.

Beyond sweets, Easter baskets are filled with toys and activities like bubble wands, which saw a 9.2 times increase in purchases during Easter weekend. Florals are also a key component of holiday decor, with tulips being a popular choice for Easter tables, purchased 8.6 times more the day before Easter than the yearly average.

Instacart’s insights into holiday shopping reveal the evolving preferences of American consumers, emphasizing the importance of tradition while highlighting shifts in popular items.
