On Sunday, during the second day of qualifying for the 109th in execution of “The greatest show in the races”, it was discovered that the car of the Josef Newgarden of the Team Penske and Will will be able to feed had an illegally modified part.
They were disqualified by making a four laps race and Indycar the next day hammered the team: Newgarden, the twice winner of the defense race, was fallen to the 32nd on the pitch and the power was moved to last for Indy 500 this weekend.
Ganassi chip, CEO of Ganassi Racing chip, was one of the many who complained with the Indycar inspectors and thought managers that the cars were illegal on Sunday. The next day, the largest race in the world was now disappointed by the drama, which has been exhausted for the first time since 2016.
“I think all the teams have a certain responsibility to support the integrity of this sport, in any series, and no team more than Team Penske,” said Ganassi in an episode of “Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour” that will be released on Thursday.
“They have been so successful over the years, and it is a team that everyone has heard of, and are successful all over the world in many different series, so they must be kept at a higher standard to protect sport, in particular with the investment that Roger Penske has at the Motor Speedway of Indianapolis and in the Indycar series and in its activity, for this reason,” Ganassi.
Newgarden is trying to become the first driver to win the Indy 500 in three consecutive years, but no pilot won after starting the last line. In the meantime, Power is in a contractual year and Team Penske has maintained that he would not start the discussions on an extension until after the 500. Last week he asked for the future of Power last week with the team, Cindric said at AP: “Well, if he won the 500, this would make a much easier conversation”.
Now, Newgarden and power are in deep holes despite having nothing to do with the situation.
“They have the responsibility of protecting sport – we all do it,” said Ganassi in Harvick. “All those who are inside must protect sport, and it is certainly a problem when the search to win compromises integrity and sportiness. This is what you have.”
