The Greek agent Giorgos Panou is accredited for having launched the career of the star of the superstar Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo and is now doing the same in football with the new striker of Brighton Kostoulas.

Just as Antetokounmpo identified, then a Greek Second Division Basketball player in 2013, identified Kostoulas, nicknamed “Babis”, at 15 years old.

Now he is on the verge of a record move and, when he was asked how the two talents are confronted, Panou replied: “I felt in the same way when I saw Babis play for the first time three years ago in an under 19 game, at the age of 15, at how I felt when I saw Giannis.

“I immediately had the feeling of being an immense talent in cold blood, with a great body language and ready to face older and older guys without trying pressure. I saw a potential to grow.”

In the past, the interest in Kostoulas has been attributed to Chelsea, while Brighton is believed to have beaten some of Germany’s largest clubs in his signature. So why move to the southern coast? The answer is, perhaps, not surprising.

“They won the family and myself with the way they speak, negotiate, give all the tools to thrive and have a good experience in the development of young similar talents,” added Panou. “So we feel very comfortable and I am really sure that Babis will adapt very quickly in this environment. It was a kids game for me.”

The former assistant basketball coach in Greece, now broker agreements in two sports, believes that this is a golden era of Greek football – with Stefanos Tzimas also in Brighton of Nurnberg this summer, and the star of Paok Giannis Kettethelias early to move to a European line soon.
