America’s news TV channel for the Mideast fires its staff after funding cuts

CAIRO (AP) — The head of the U.S.-funded Al Hurra Arabic-language television and online news outlet has terminated most of his staff and curtailed TV programming. On Saturday, Jeffrey Gedmin notified Al Hurra staffers of their firings. In a letter, Gedmin blamed the Trump administration and Elon Musk, who leads U.S. government cost-cutting efforts in Washington. Gedmin accused the U.S. administration and Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency of having “unlawfully” cut off the money that was approved by the U.S. Congress. The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
