The border of the Trump administration, Tom Homan, refuted the claim that he would arrest the mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass and the California governor Gavino Newsom, and said Fox News that an interview from this weekend was taken out of context.
“The reporter asked:” Could Governor, Governor Newsom or Mayor Bass be arrested? “I said,” Well, nobody is above the law when they cross the border and commit a crime, “said Homan.” So there was no discussion about the arrest of Newsom. “
Demonstrators collided with the authorities in downtown Los Angeles on June 8, 2025.

Homan claimed that he had spoken in general if someone “exceeds the border” was pursued by criminal law.
“You can protest. You have received your first change rights. But if you exceed this line, make an ice cream representative, or you destroy property, or ice cream says that you hinder law enforcement … this is a crime and that the Trump administration will not tolerate,” he said.
President Donald Trump made similar comments on Sunday and said that if California civil servants stand in the way of “law and order, they will file charges”.
